Ottawa should soon have a professional basketball team, joining plans for professional football, soccer and minor league baseball.

The National Basketball League of Canada held a news conference Wednesday to officially announce the expansion team for the 2013-14 season.

The league, founded in 2010, currently has eight franchises in the Maritimes, Quebec and southern Ontario, featuring former Canadian university players along with European league and American college alumni.

Ottawa’s yet-to-be-named team will play at Scotiabank Place and is owned by Bytowne Sports and Entertainment, a company run by a local motivational speaker and author.
