Ottawa fire credit a dog named Moss as the hero who woke residents in the middle of the night and helped them escape their burning homes on Spadina Avenue in Hintonburg. The fast moving fire began at 24 Spadina Avenue and moved to 22 Spadina and 26 Spadina Avenue. All 3 buildings were multi-unit dwellings.  The fire has displaced 19 people altogether. 

Ottawa firefighters and other emergency crews received multiiple 911 calls around 3:45 a.m.  Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy fire and smoke. More crews were called to battle the blaze. At this time, no injuries have been reported. Investigators remain at the scene.

Somerset Street has now opened to motorists. Spadina Avenue is closed between Somerset and Laurel Street. Commuters are advised to avoid the area. Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
