A four-month-old kitten is lucky to be alive after being left for dead in a sealed garbage bag near a Barrhaven Park.

The little black kitten, now named Hope, was found by a Good Samaritan early Friday morning and quickly taken to the Ottawa Humane Society. The passerby heard the kitten's cry for help and was pulled from a pile of trash near Weybridge Park in Barrhaven.

“It’s horrifying that someone would do this to a defenseless animal,” said Sharon Miko, OHS deputy executive director in a news release.

Hope has an ulcer on her eye and scratches on her nose which the Humane Society believes she sustained while trying to free herself from the garbage bag.

The little fighter is receiving care at the Humane Society and is expected to make a full recovery.

“Hope is doing remarkably well for a kitten who had a brush with death,” Miko said. “She is a little banged up but beyond that, she is just a sweet and playful little girl who now gets a second chance at life.”

The Humane Society is urging anyone with information to contact them at 613-725-3166 ext. 224.
