The kitchen and dining area of an east Ottawa restaurant have been damaged after a Sunday morning fire.

Ottawa fire officials said they were called to the Montana’s Cookhouse at 4230 Innes Road around 5:45 a.m. after its alarms started going off.

When they arrived they said they saw smoke coming out of two sides of the building, leading them to force their way inside.

The fire was contained to the deep fryer area, damaging the fryer and hood above it.

There is also moderate smoke damage to the kitchen and light smoke damage to the dining area.

Damage is estimated at $40,000.
