It took two years and 2,000 kilometres of fiber optic cable, but Bell Fibe is being officially launched in the Gatineau.

Bell, CTV's parent company, made the announcement now that the service is available to 80 per cent of customers across the river.

Demand has been high, making it the fastest growing fiber optic based television and internet service in North America.

"The word of mouth and how fast that spread because of the quality of service was quite surprising," says Nicolas Poitras, Bell VP of Residential Services.

Poitras says the service in Gatineau offers the provider's latest technology which includes fiber right to the home. He says it boasts the fastest total internet upload and download speeds available.

Bell says the entire city of Gatineau will have access to Bell Fibe by early 2015.
