More than 1,500 people laced up to raise funds and awareness for multiple sclerosis in Ottawa as part of the MS Society's annual walk on Sunday.
Organizers say more than $350,000 was raised to fight the neurological disease and fund research to find a cure for MS.
"It's a time for people to get out and celebrate those who live with MS, the families who also live with the disease -- for us to express ourselves," said Philip Goodwin of Ottawa's MS Society.
This year's walk was the first time organizers in Ottawa brought walkers together at one central location.
It's estimated between 55,000 and 75,000 Canadians are affected by MS, which may cause loss of balance, impaired speech, and paralysis.
MS is usually diagnosed in people between the ages of 15 and 40. Approximately 85 per cent of those suffering from the disease experience invisible symptoms, such as blurry vision and numbness in various parts of their bodies.
