Two people are in hospital with serious injuries after a Via Rail train from Ottawa slammed into a small car near Kingston.
The collision occurred at the Joyceville Road Crossing, about 25 kilometres east of Kingston's city limits.
The male and female occupants of the vehicle were transported to hospital. None of the train's 154 passengers or crew was injured.
Investigators are on scene inspecting the train, as well as the tracks, said Via Rail spokeswoman Catherine Kaloutsky.
The westbound No. 43 train was taking passengers from Ottawa to Toronto when the collision occurred. The train, which sustained slight damage, is being held in Kingston until the track is cleared.
Passengers remained on-board while crews inspected the collision Monday morning, Kaloutsky said. All aspects of the collision are under investigation.
