Three families in Gatineau, Que. might have to wait several days before they're able to return to their homes.

A voluntary evacuation order was issued for homes on Lafrance Street after a 60-metre crack was found in a nearby hillside over the weekend.

Gatineau officials and Quebec's Ministry of Transportation were on the scene at midday Tuesday to examine the potential threat.

Officials with the City of Gatineau are concerned the hillside might collapse, damaging homes and causing mud to flow onto the road.

A preliminary report on the situation is expected later this week, which will help determine the next plan of action.
