Senators magic run ends losing to Rangers 5-1

The Ottawa Senators bubble burst tonight as the New York Rangers ended Andrew Hammond’s undefeated run in regulation and a chance at NHL history as the Rangers dominated the Senators with a 5-1 victory.

The Rangers opened the scoring in the first period as Chris Kreider beats Andrew Hammond blocker side. Just 20 seconds later the Senators come right back to tie it up as Curtis Lazar, makes a great individual effort for his 5^th goal of the season to tie it at one.

The Rangers respond with 2 goals to close out the period. Ottawa native Dan Boyle makes it 2-1. With one minute left in the period Hammond loses the puck as it pops up, Kreider bangs it in for this 2^nd goal of the game for a 3-1 lead.

Early in the 2^nd period, the Rangers take no mercy as Mats Zuccarello finishes off the 2 on one giving New York a 4-1 lead. Senators struggled and didn’t register a single shot on net in the first ten minutes of the 2^nd period.

With 4 minutes left in the period, Tanner Glass comes out of the penalty box for a 5-1 lead. That would chase Hammond from the net as 20 year old Chris Driedger took over making his NHL debut.

Rangers win 5-1. Andrew Hammond loses his first game in regulation falling to 14-1-1. Despite the loss the Senators hold onto a playoff spot, now tied for 8^th place with the Boston Bruins.
