The right bid could mean professional baseball is coming back to Ottawa.

City officials are asking for the "best offers to lease" the Ottawa Stadium on Coventry Road starting in 2013.

There is interest from at least one investment firm which is known for its involvement in professional sports.

Some speculate the Blue Jays organization is planning to field an AA franchise in Ottawa.

Ottawa's last professional team, the AAA Lynx left the city in 2008.

The stadium is currently used by the Ottawa Stadium Group Ltd. The group has requested their lease be extended to October 31, 2012 in order to allow the Ottawa Fat Cats to finish their baseball season.

In a memo to city councillors, Mayor Jim Watson noted plans to move ahead with the construction of light rail transit would mean better access to the site.

City staff has proposed the 850-space parking lot be kept for the next ten years if a lease agreement can be negotiated.

Many councillors say they are pleased to hear baseball could be saved at the stadium.

The stadium is owned by the City of Ottawa.
