Ottawa Police and MRC des Collines have broken up what they allege is a large auto theft ring.
Police have charged four people in connection with the thefts of 26 vehicles between the winter of 2015 and August of 2015.
Police allege the four people involved would steal trucks and cars in Quebec and Ontario, create new fake vehicle identification numbers, and resell them in Ontario.
Police say some of the vehicles were sold between $30,000 and $40,000 below market value. They remind the public if a deal looks too good to be true, it probably is.
Once the vehicles were located and determined to be stolen, police took them away to return them to the original owners. Often the “new” buyers have no idea the car is stolen.
Police say two of the four accused have already pled guilty.
* Sasha BOUFFARD, 39 years old of Gatineau pled guilty and will be sentenced in October 2015.
* Salvator DONATO, 68 years old of Ottawa is facing the charges before the courts.
* Joey MASSE, 50 years old of Ottawa is facing charges before the courts.
* Calibur KIESMAN, 31 years old of Ottawa pled guilty and was sentenced to a 12 month conditional sentence and 12 months of Probation.
