Ottawa's first baby of 2012 came as confetti was still raining down and champagne corks being popped across the city.
Baby Audrey was born to Sarah Fairbrass and Matt Pelchat at the Ottawa Hospital's Civic Campus just 30 seconds after midnight
"It's amazing, we're really happy," Fairbrass said.
"I'm happy they both healthy," said Pelchat. "That's the important thing."
Audrey, whose due date was Jan. 9, weighed in at eight pounds and three ounces.
Her big sister Violet, only 17 months old, came to the hospital to visit her new sibling on Sunday.
"She's already feeding and cooperating better then Violet, so maybe she'll be a little calmer too," Fairbrass said.
For the older members of the family, the arrival wasn't any less special.
"So small, so delicate. . . compared to me," said grandpa Tom Fairbrass. "It's incredible. Absolutely incredible."
The family said they're planning to take Audrey home to Barrhaven on Monday.
