Ottawa heads into playoffs with 3-1 record over NY

The Senators went 3-1 against the Rangers this year, with one of their wins coming in the shootout and one via a shutout.

Here's how those games played out:

Oct. 29 - Sens 5, Rangers 4 (shootout)

The Rangers fell victim to one of Ottawa's many early-season comebacks, giving up a three-goal third period lead and ultimately losing in a shootout.

New York was up 4-1 at home with 11 minutes to play in regulation before Jason Spezza put in two goals and Milan Michalek added another to tie the score.

Filip Kuba had three assists, while New York's Marian Gaborik had a goal and two helpers.

Michalek then scored the only goal in the shootout past Henrik Lundqvist to seal the win.

Lundqvist stopped 36 shots in the loss while Craig Anderson made 24 saves.

Nov. 9 - Rangers 3, Sens 2

Lundqvist stood tall and Marian Gaborik scored twice as the Rangers beat the Senators at Scotiabank Place.

The Senators jumped out to a 1-0 lead on what was Michalek's tenth goal of the year, before Gaborik evened the score and Derek Stepan put New York ahead with a backhander.

Gaborik, the Rangers' sniper and eventual All-Star Game MVP, got a wrist shot by Anderson eight and a half minutes into the third period for the eventual game-winner.

Nick Foligno's goal 78 seconds later didn't inspire an Ottawa comeback.

The Rangers, backstopped by Lundqvist, won despite being outshot 31-19.

Jan. 12 - Sens 3, Rangers 0

Familiar names led the way for Ottawa in their road shutout of the Rangers.

Spezza scored twice (one on the power play), Michalek the other and Craig Anderson stopped all 31 shots for the win.

Erik Karlsson had two assists from the back end.

Ottawa killed off all four penalties against them, while capitalizing on one of the two times New York was short-handed.

Lundqvist made 21 saves on 24 shots.

March 8 - Sens 4, Rangers 1

It was a different goaltender matchup for the last meeting of the season as Ben Bishop won his home debut over Martin Biron.

Captain Ryan Callahan scored first for the Rangers, but Zack Smith and Foligno had the Senators up 2-1 by the end of the first period.

A scoreless second period followed in which Ottawa only mustered three shots, but Kyle Turris and Jason Spezza into an empty net added to the Senators' lead.

Bishop, now Anderson's backup, stopped all but one of the 26 shots against him.

Biron made 18 saves.
