OTTAWA, Ont. - A man who called 911 to report a person in Ottawa's Rideau River ended up being the victim himself.

Ottawa police and fire crews responded to a call around 1 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2014 about a man possibly going in and out of the water near the Hog's Back Bridge (at Colonel By Drive.)

When they got to the scene, they found nothing and no one there.

Fire crews then searched a little further down and found the caller himself who was stranded under another bridge (the Heron Road Bridge.)

Water and ice rescue teams were called off and crews used a ladder to rescue the caller.
