When you live in one of the coldest Capital cities in the world, sometimes the only thing standing between a snowy Ottawa and a tropical beach is Mike Hendrick.
Hendrick is the manager of Airfield Operations at the Ottawa International Airport. He makes sure the runways are clear and helps the airport beat other cities when it comes to getting planes in and out of all kinds of weather. It may be his job, but it is no easy feat. Hendrick is responsible for 6,000 acres of land.
In fact, his family house used to be on some of that land before the airport expanded. It's where he grew up. It's the house his father would leave day after day to work at the airport. Hendrick followed in his footsteps and is now set to retire after 50 years.
Airport authorities surprised him with naming a building in his honour because they think he is that amazing.
