A 26-year-old man was taken to hospital in critical condition after a chainsaw accident.
Paramedics responded to the call at 10:30 a.m. to Sharkey Crescent in Cumberland. The man, who was working for a tree service, suffered a “life-threatening laceration to one arm” after the chainsaw he was using kicked back, the Ottawa Paramedic Service said in a release.
He was conscious when paramedics arrived, and was in a bucket lift seven metres high when the incident happened.
His fellow workers lowered him to the ground and fashioned a tourniquet from another worker’s t-shirt, applying pressure to the wound.
An ORNGE air ambulance airlifted the man from the scene.
Ontario’s Ministry of Labour has been notified of the incident and is investigating.
