The Ottawa Senators have traded forward Alex Kovalev to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a seventh round draft pick.

The move comes after a disappointing performance by the veteran forward who signed a two-year $10-million deal with the team as a free agent in 2009.

Kovalev has 14 goals and 13 assists in 54 games this season. He's scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

The Sens have also acquired forward Marek Svatos off waivers from the Nashville Predators.

Svatos is a veteran NHLer who scored 32 goals in his rookie year following the NHL lockout. He started this season playing in Russia.

It's the latest roster change for the struggling Ottawa Senators as the team attempts to rebuild the club with an eye on the future.

Within the last two weeks the team has traded veterans Mike Fisher, Chris Kelly, Jarkko Ruutu and Brian Elliot. They've received several draft picks in return, as well as goalie Craig Anderson from the Colorado Avalanche.
