OTTAWA -- A high school rugby player in Ottawa has died after suffering injuries in a game last week.
Rowan Stringer died Sunday night in hospital.
Students at John McCrae Secondary School are mourning the 17-year-old's death and the Ottawa Carleton District School Board has extended condolences to the Stringer family and the girl's friends.
"John McCrae Secondary School is extremely saddened by the loss of a student in our school community. Our school community is in mourning and together, we will support each other in this time of need. A crisis management team has been put in place to provide assistance." - John McCrae Secondary School
The school board has not confirmed details of the injuries sustained by Stringer, who was captain of her rugby team and had played the sport extensively.
The school board dispatched a crisis management team to the school to help students and staff deal with the loss.
All sports at the school have also been cancelled.
