Crown prosecutors in Quebec and other government lawyers have walked off the job, causing delays for thousands of court cases across the province.
The 450 prosecutors and 1,000 government lawyers are demanding a 40 per cent wage hike. The lawyers argue this will bring them in line with the Canadian average.
They also want the government to hire 200 more lawyers to alleviate the current workload.
However, the province says it can't afford to meet those demands.
Despite being on strike, the attorneys say they will still attend bail hearings and finish jury trials that are already underway.
