Crews started work to dismantle the roof of CTV Ottawa's burned out newsroom Wednesday in an effort to make the building safe for investigators.

A crane was on hand to remove parts of the collapsed roof above the newsroom, dumping the wreckage in the building's parking lot.

Ontario's Ministry of Labour has not yet deemed the building safe for investigators.

There are also continued concerns about the level of asbestos in the building, with danger signs posted at the building's entrance.

Anyone given access to areas already deemed safe must wear sophisticated face masks to protect themselves.

Although staff initially feared the fire had destroyed the office of longtime anchor Max Keeping, photographs and awards could be seen hanging on the walls of his office on Wednesday.

While parts of the second-floor, including all of the desks belonging to reporters, were destroyed, other areas of the building seem to have survived the flames.

There is still no word on when the fire marshal will get access to the newsroom to start investigating the cause of the fire.
