The city of Ottawa is one step closer to having gaming tables in the capital.

A city committee approved the addition of 21 Blackjack tables at the Rideau Carleton Raceway Thursday morning.

The two-year pilot project will add to a race track, bingo hall and slot machines already on site.

Mayor Jim Watson said the plan will generate more revenue for the city.

The pilot project must be given final approval by full city council and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation.
