The City of Ottawa has eliminated 100 vacant positions in phase one of its quest to cut $100 million from its budget.
City staff told CTV Ottawa they have now found $25 million in savings for the city, which is equal to savings of about 2.5 per cent for residents on their property bills.
Although the city has decided to get rid of 100 jobs, city staff still needs to cut another $75 million from its budget, raising the possibility of restructuring.
Mayor Larry O'Brien said the cuts are a good start, however, he still wants another 400 jobs cut from the city's payroll in the next budget.
