Daniel Alfredsson still has some meaningful hockey games left in him.
The Ottawa Senators captain told IIHF.com Sunday he will play for Sweden at the World Hockey Championships, which are being held in Finland and Sweden next month.
"Immediately when we were eliminated from the playoffs, I spoke with Erik Karlsson and asked him how he feels about going to the World Championship," Alfredsson said to IIHF.com's Szymon Szemberg.
"I told him that I myself feel good about it. This week when I was off with the concussion meant that I feel rested now and ready to go."
This will be his seventh stint with the national team at that tournament, to go along with four Olympics and two World Cups.
He's returning to the Globen Arena in Stockholm where he played in his first world championships at age 22, scoring the overtime winner in the semi-final against Canada before losing to Finland.
"This would of course be the perfect scenario after all those years, to beat Finland in on their home ice," he said. "I have never won the World Championship."
Alfredsson said he's going to decide in the offseason if he has the desire to prepare for his 17th NHL season or if he will retire.
