The Ottawa Senators outplayed and outshot the Washington Capitals but they couldn’t outscore the Capitals for a 2-1 victory

The Ottawa Senators came out strong in the first period outshooting the Capitals 14-6. It would be scoreless after one period.

The Capitals break the scoreless tie in the 2nd period as Jay Beagle beats Craig Anderson. The Senators come right back to tie it up 2 minutes later as Erik Condra, steals the puck then scores his 3rd goal of the season. The Capitals retake the lead on the power play with 35 seconds left in the period as Nicklas Backstrom scores the go ahead.  Washington would lead 2-1 after 2.

The Senators couldn’t beat Braden Holtby again despite outshooting the Capitals 39-23 as Washington wins 2-1.

The Senators enjoy a 4 day Christmas break. They return to action when they host the Detroit Red Wings Dec 27th.
