The first step to rebuilding the University of Ottawa men’s hockey team was taken today as Patrick Grandmaître was named as their new head coach.

The 36-year-old,will be behind the bench in September 2016. Grandmaître replaces former coach Real Paiement, who was dismissed following allegations of sexual misconduct by some players last season. As a result of the allegations, the Gee Gee’s season was eventually suspended.

Grandmaître is a graduate of St Francis Xavier University where he captained the men’s hockey team. The Hull native,has been a college coach in Gatineau.  He'll serve as a special assistant this year at the Ottawa Senators rookie camp. He will also have former Senators head coach Jacques Martin as a special advisor in year 1.
