A majority of Akwesasne Mohawk residents believe they've been treated fairly by border guards at the closed Cornwall Island border crossing, according to a survey.

The poll was released by the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne to detail attitudes over the closure, which has disrupted local residents since June 1.

Grand Chief Elect Mike Mitchell says the problem is caused by just a few border guards. Sventy-seven per cent of those polled oppose the controversial decision to arms Canada Border Services agents.
