Summer travel season is just around the corner and many drivers in Ottawa Wednesday night said high gas prices would not put the brakes on their plans.

“No, I’ll make sacrifices elsewhere,” said one driver filling up.

Gas prices are the highest they have been in three years, according to analyst Dan McTeague. He says they come with “an unusual caveat and that’s that there really isn’t a lot of demand or supply issues driving this.”

“This has a lot to do with speculation on the markets that…demand may increase or there might be some geo-political tension down the road,” McTeague said.

For taxi drivers, high gas prices can be crippling.

“It’s very high so we don't make money anymore so to fill up a tank it costs at least $80 a shift,  it's a 12 hour shift and it's too expensive,” said one taxi driver.

Some motorists said they sometimes drive around to find the best deal.

“If I’m just driving around town I’ll wait until I find something better but it’s also a hassle,” said Heidi Rodger.

But others said they have no choice but to keep filling up, regardless of the price.
