Thousands of young hockey players from around the world have descended on the city for the annual Bell Capital Cup.

The international minor hockey competition is recognized as the world’ premier atom and peewee level hockey tournament.

This is the 16th annual Bell Capital Cup. 260 teams are taking part this year, with teams from across Canada, the U.S. and from as far away as Hong Kong and Finland.

“The game itself bridges a lot of language barriers…everybody is speaking hockey for the week they're here,” said Bell Capital Cup General Manager Scott Lawryk.

New this year, sledge hockey players will be showcasing their sport in three games.

“It's such a big tournament, so it's a great opportunity for us to advertise our sport and show we are competitive, fast athletes as well,” Said Ben Delaney, a national sledge hockey player who won a bronze medal playing sledge hockey with Team Canada at this year’s Paralympics in Sochi.

Tournament organizers hope to include sledge hockey in the 2016 Bell Capital Cup.

This year’s tournament continues until January 2nd, with games being played at ice pads throughout the city. They are all free to attend.
