Train vs. car: How long does it take to get from Limebank to Rideau?
It was another big day for passengers riding the new north-south LRT and with many looking to cut down on their commute CTV News Ottawa wanted to see if it’s faster to get from the south end to downtown by car or by train.
Reporter Katelyn Wilson started her day around 9:30 a.m. at Limebank Station and drove downtown to Rideau Station.
It took 27 minutes and 40 seconds and while traffic wasn’t too bad, in rush hour that may take a bit longer.
Back at Limebank Station, it was time to see how long it would take to ride the LRT downtown.
She arrived at 11:23 a.m. and it took 15 minutes from the time she bought her ticket to the time the train left the station.
It took another 30 minutes to get to Bayview Station in order to transfer to Line 1, chatting with passengers along the way.
“It’s nice it saves me a lot of time like here and there, it’s clean too,” said passenger Elawad Fadelalla.
“I wish it was a bit faster, I feel they can maybe run a bit more frequently,” said another passenger, Elias Hawa.
Once she arrived at Bayview Station, Wilson waked upstairs to the Line 1 platform and waited five minutes for the train to arrive.
She got back to Rideau Station at 12:22, for a total of 59 minutes from start to finish.
In total it took twice as long by train than it did by car.
