Ottawa resident Sheena Sierolawski didn't hold back at Thursday night's open house to discuss proposed cuts to bus routes.

"I want to tell you that public transportation in Ottawa is terrible," Sierolawski told city staff at a public consultation at the Nepean Sportsplex Thursday night.

"At this rate, no one will take the bus and you can just shut the whole thing down – that will save money."

Sierolawski didn't protest a specific route change. Instead, she argued that OC Transpo shouldn't cut service; it needs to give residents better service.

"When I was a teenager, you could take the bus everywhere. It was safe; it was available; the bus was there. Now, my daughter's 17 and I have to drive her everywhere because the bus isn't there; the connections are really bad; and they're too infrequent."

Proposed changes to 100 OC Transpo bus routes will affect thousands of residents who rely on public transit to get around. Across the city, people have been showing up in droves to contest bus route cuts at public meetings.

The savings are expected to save the city $22 million per year. There are two more public consultations planned for next week.
