Concerned OC Transpo riders are saying the city may be saving money with proposed changes to bus routes, but it'll cost them in their commute.

Hundreds came to the first of five public consultation meetings Tuesday night at Ottawa City Hall to let the city know about the potential impact of the changes.

"I'll have to look for a new (job) basically, unless I can find a good carpool," said Johann Caddell, employee at Gilmore Printing in Kanata.

Staff at the printing company has started a petition to save their routes.

Diane Deans, chair of the city's transit commission, says the big crowds are good because the plans can still be changed.

"No one knows OC Transpo better than our customers," she said.

The city says 100 routes would be affected, with savings of $22 million per year.

The next meeting is Wednesday night, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Kanata Recreation Complex.
