Fire crews spent almost two hours battling a house fire south of Ottawa Saturday afternoon that has left a family of four homeless.
Ottawa Fire Services said they responded to a fire on Ferdinand Street in Osgoode, about 50 kilometres south of downtown Ottawa, around 3:45 p.m.
When they arrived they said they saw flames coming from the back of the home, the fire burning on both its floors and the roof.
"I heard sirens for ten, 15 minutes; when I got there the house was just finished," said nearby resident Vincent MacDonell. "To me it looked like a complete write-off."
Fire crews said the blaze was under control at 5:25 p.m., with four firefighters having to be treated for heat-related symptoms.
"It's an extremely warm day," said Monty Malloy with Ottawa Fire Services. "We called in tankers because there's no water around this area."
This fire came a day after a small electrical fire at the same house prompted police to tell the four adult residents to leave for the night. They weren't home when the second fire broke out.
However, the residents had two dogs, one which is still missing.
Damage from the fire is estimayed at $300,000 to the building and $150,000 to its contents.
Police said they're investigating whether the second fire was also an electrical one.
