The Carleton Ravens men's basketball team accomplished what it couldn't muster during last year's national championship season – an Ontario championship and a perfect record.

A year after falling to Lakehead in the OUA final, the Ravens shut down the Ryerson Rams 82-39 to win the provincial title on Saturday in Waterloo.

The Ravens (25-0) led 23-11 after the first quarter, but the Rams (15-10) closed the gap to 34-25 by halftime.

Shortly after the start of the third, Carleton went on a 22-2 run led by OUA East Player of the Year Philip Scrubb and veteran Cole Hobin.

They held the Rams to 14 points in the second half and scored 48 of their own to clinch the title, their sixth in the last ten seasons.

According to Yahoo! Sports, the 39 points scored by the Rams is the lowest in an OUA championship game.

Hobin scored 17 points and added 11 rebounds, leading the game in both categories.

Rams PG Jahmal Jones was held to 11 points in the loss.

Both teams locked up a berth in next week's national championship tournament in Halifax, with Lakehead a good bet to secure a wildcard berth as the #2 ranked team in Canada.

Gee-Gees win first title since 2004

While the Ravens regularly blow out their opponents, the University of Ottawa women's basketball team scored a surprise 89-40 win over Windsor to take the Ontario title on their home court.

The #6-ranked Gee-Gees (22-3) beat the #2-ranked Lancers (22-3) for the second time this season behind Kellie Ring and Jenna Gilbert, who scored 14 points each.

Ottawa had their foot on the accelerator from the opening tip, leading 28-12 after the first quarter and 46-16 at the half.

Windsor's Jessica Clemencon, one of the leading scorers in the country, was held to 11 points.

Ottawa took the only regular-season meeting 74-58 on Nov. 18.

The Gee-Gees skip the qualifying regional tournament, joining Alberta, McGill and UBC as teams who have clinched a spot in the Final 8 tournament March 17-19 in Calgary.

The Carleton Ravens failed to earn a spot in a regional tournament with a 58-51 loss to Brock in the OUA bronze medal game.
