Ottawa police say death of individual in Rideau River is not considered suspicious

Ottawa police say the death of an individual found in the Rideau River on Sunday afternoon is not considered suspicious.

A CTV News Ottawa camera operator saw officers at the scene with a body under a tarp near the intersection of King Edward Avenue and Sussex Drive.

Ottawa Fire Services were called to the area for an ice rescue but were called off.

Police told CTV News Ottawa on Monday that the death is not considered suspicious.

"Yesterday, first responders recovered the body of a deceased individual from the Rideau River after a passerby spotted it shortly before 3 p.m." police said in a statement. "The death is not considered suspicious at this time."

The name of the victim has not been released.
