A 21-year-old man faces sexual assault, weapons, and break-and-enter charges after a series of incidents in Ottawa's Sandy Hill neighbourhood between last October and March.

Gregory Guindon was released on bail and will appear in court on Tuesday.

Ottawa police have been probing several sexual assaults in Sandy Hill, usually involving a man breaking into residences.

They released images of a "person of interest" last month regarding a March 1 attack on Daly Avenue. The attack happened at about 7:15 a.m. in an apartment where two women were sleeping.

Police say the man was armed with a knife and began sexually assaulting one woman. When the other woman awoke, the suspect fled.

He apparently demanded cash, but was unsuccessful.
