Pembroke Dentist Dr. Christy Natsis is back in court this week for sentencing after being convicted in May on charges of impaired driving causing death and dangerous driving causing death.
Natsis, 51, was found guilty in May on two charges after a criminal trial spanning 55 days. She was aquitted of a third charge of having a blood alcohol limit above the legal limit. During the trial the judge ruled that Ontario Provincial Police denied Natsis her right to have a lawyer present.
Monday's court appearance began with a disagreement over victim impact testimonies. The defence asked for a brief recess to give their team and Justice Neil Kozloff time to go over the five statements. Upon return, Justice Kozloff said he had some concerns with three of the five statements.
The prosecution is asking for 6-8 years, plus a driving prohibition of several years. The defence is asking for between 3-4 years imprisonment.
Victim impact statements are expected to be read Wednesday, with a sentence expected to come down Thursday.
More to come.
