Upper Ottawa Valley mayors are calling for a plan to widen a section of Highway 17 known as "the killer highway."

The mayors say too many people have died along the roadway and that changes are necessary to prevent future deaths.

A 60-year-old woman died in a collision on the highway three weeks ago between Arnprior and Renfrew.

The mayors will meet with Ontario's infrastructure minister later this month to ask for a timetable on widening 20 kilometres of the highway, west of Arnprior.

If approved, the cost for the expansion could cost as much as $200 million.
