The City of Ottawa has lifted the outdoor water ban in the southwest part of the city after imposing the ban two months ago.

"We are very pleased to announce that this water ban is officially over and full water supply has been restored to these three communities," Mayor Jim Watson said in a prepared statement released on Monday.

"I would like to thank residents for their cooperation with the water restrictions, and congratulate the contractor and City staff who worked hard to get the repair work done quickly in order to ensure life got back to normal."

The water ban was put in place for about 80,000 residents in Barrhaven, Manotick and Riverside South in late April.

The ban was initially supposed to be in place until mid-August, but work to replace the broken water main on Woodroffe Avenue pushed that timeline up to mid-July.

Work continued at a fast pace and the new water main was finished being installed last week.
