A sweeping outdoor water ban in southwest Ottawa will be lifted by mid-July, and city staff say it could be lifted even sooner if work continues at an accelerated pace.

City officials announced Wednesday that the water ban will be lifted on July 15, and that date could be moved up again if workers continue to make good progress on replacing a broken water main on Woodroffe Avenue.

The water ban, which affects about 80,000 residents living in Barrhaven, Riverside South and Manotick, was put in place in late April. It was initially supposed to last until mid-August.

The city says the timelines were moved up because work to replace the water main is going faster than expected.

City officials say people have been complying with the outdoor water ban and no fines have been issued so far.
