As Ottawa battled a winter storm, city council discussed a $1-million bike lane project for the downtown core.

City staff is recommending segregated bike lanes on Laurier Avenue between Elgin Street and Bronson Avenue.

While cycling groups are in support of putting the bike lanes on Laurier Avenue, area businesses oppose the plan.

The Bank Street BIA argues more than 100 parking spaces would be lost if the bike lanes are installed.

The city's transportation committee is expected to make a decision on the bike lanes on Wednesday evening.
