Ottawa Police are investigating a Sunday morning homicide in the city's East end, the city's third homicide of the year.
Police say a man was shot to death near Tremblay and Belfast roads early Sunday morning on May 3, 2015.
He's been identified as 21-year-old Sharif Said. He was found by a passerby and died at the hospital.
They were called to the area around 6:00 a.m.
"Emergency services were dispatched to Tremblay and Belfast in regards to a gentleman who had been injured in the middle of the intersection," said Ottawa Police Duty Inspector Michel Marin. "Shortly after their arrival they noticed the gentleman had been shot."
Tremblay Road from the Ottawa Train Station to Avenue T. was closed for hours as police processed the scene.
So far, police have not released any information about the victim, and they have no one in custody and no suspects.
Neighbours in the area describe hearing a loud bang, and what sounded like gunshots around 6:00 a.m.
"I heard a loud band sound very early this morning," said Anne Ricard, who lives near the homicide scene. "I thought it was construction because there's a lot of LRT construction going on," she added.
"I heard the shots, like 4 to 6 shots, guaranteed," said Charles, another neighbour who only wanted to give his first name. "Stuff like that never happens here, so I was very surprised to hear that."
Residents describe the neighbourhood as typically quiet and calm, tucked in to an industrial area near the train station.
A few blocks from the original scene, police tape surrounded another area, this one near Sanford Fleming and Terminal avenues.
A silver pick-up truck in that vicinity appeared to have crashed into a building.
"Out of an abundance of caution, we're treating that as a potential lead into this investigation," Marin said.
Police have not confirmed if that scene is connected to the homicide investigation.
They are asking anyone with information related to the homicide to call them, or Crime Stoppers.
