OTTAWA - In March 2013, the Ottawa Police Service Sexual Assault & Child Abuse Section commenced an investigation into allegations of historical sexual assaults involving a hockey coach and a young boy who was 11 years old at the time.

The incidents occurred in Ottawa between 1987 and 1991 and criminal charges were laid in September 2013. As a result of media coverage this September, more victims came forward to police. The Ottawa Police criminal investigation has been ongoing ever since.

On October 22, 2013, the Sexual Assault & Child Abuse Section arrested and charged Kelly JONES, 57 years old, of Ottawa with over 30 counts of sexual offences, including Sexual Assault, Sexual Interference, Invitation to Sexual Touching and Sexual Exploitation, Intimidation and sexual offences per Criminal Code charges existing at the time of the offences.

These charges relate to multiple incidents, from 1971 to 1997, involving a total of eleven victims, ranging in age from 7 to 15 years of age.

He will appear in court on October 23, 2013 for a bail hearing. Mr. Jones coached various teams at the Bantam level in the Ottawa area during these years. He was also a baseball coach.

The Ottawa Police investigation is ongoing.
