Two families are displaced after a large fire in Westboro overnight Tuesday.

Fire crews were called to the 300 block of Roosevelt Avenue, just north of Richmond Rd. around midnight. 50 firefighters were deployed to help fight the two alarm blaze. The cold weather meant firefighters had to work in shifts to avoid getting too cold.

When Diane Blackburn woke up just after midnight she saw her neighbour’s house on fire.

"I've never seen an orange glow entirely take over the black sky like it did," she said.

Blackburn's home was damaged in the fire. A broken window, some exterior damage but nothing too serious.

Neighbors around the immediate vicinity of the fire were evacuated for about an hour Tuesday while crews battled the blaze.

Ottawa Fire said the blaze originated at a home under construction at 383 Roosevelt. Two other homes suffered significant damage.  Damages are estimated at $300,000. Nobody was injured in the fire.

The investigation is now complete and Ottawa Fire says they do not have a cause at this time.
