A small condominium community in Rockland, Ontario is reacting with sadness after an elderly neighbour was killed in an early morning fire.
Shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday morning, the Russell County OPP were called to the scene of the fire inside a condo unit on Laurier St., in the community about 40 minutes east of Ottawa.
Upon arrival, officers found the body of a man inside. He has been identified as 82-year-old Paul-Emile Simard. Neighbours say he had lived in the unit with his wife for several years.
She suffered smoke inhalation and was treated in hospital for minor injuries.
The Office of the Fire Marshall and OPP are investigating to try and determine how the deadly fire started. The fire is not believed to be of criminal nature.
The other units in the condominium complex are undamaged.
