Two people are dead and five others, including three children, injured after their cars collided Saturday afternoon on County Road 43 in North Glengarry.

Police say for reasons unknown at this time, an eastbound Black Chevrolet Impala and a westbound Red Pontiac Sunfire collided just before 2 p.m. about an hour east of Ottawa near Alexandria.

The two occupants of the Sunfire received fatal injuries and where pronounced dead at the scene.

All five people in the Impala where transported to hospital. Three of the passengers where sent to the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario. The adult male was sent to Glengarry Memorial Hospital and the adult female was sent to Cornwall Community Hospital.

The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

County Road 43 between County Road 30 and Lake Shore Road was closed to traffic most of Saturday as OPP officers investigated the crash, but is now open to traffic.
