Environment Canada issued a tornado watch for the Ottawa area on Friday.

The tornado watch covered all of Eastern Ontario from Bancroft to Cornwall.

The alert was issued just before 11 am indicating there's a potential that severe thunderstorm will spawn tornadoes.

The Ottawa area is also under its first  UV Index Advisory for 2013.

It was issued by Ottawa Public Health.

That means a strong sun capable of burning skin fast.

The UV was at its highest level Frday at 10.
