Police have arrested a male student after reports of a gunman sent several Barrhaven schools into lockdown Tuesday afternoon.
Mother Teresa High School and three nearby schools were put on lockdown Tuesday afternoon just before 2:30 p.m. Police said around 3:10 that a male had been arrested.
Police later said a student was arrested with a "replica handgun" found in his backpack. He was arrested in the library of Mother Teresa.
Police said no threats were ever made, and another student reported it to the police.
Dozens of police officers from the tactical unit, and paramedics wearing bulletproof vests, descended on the neighbourhood for the police operation. After the arrest, carloads of parents waited outside Mother Teresa to ensure their children were safe.
Police said all students were safe, and were focused on helping them exit the school in an orderly fashion after the lockdown was lifted.
More to come.
