Sources have confirmed to NEWSTALK 580 CFRA that the proposal to redevelop LeBreton Flats backed by the Ottawa Senators will include a sports training facility including two new ice pads.
The centre will be similar to the Sensplex facilities in Ottawa’s east and west ends. It would be used by the Ottawa Senators for training, and would also be open for public use.
Sources also told CFRA’s “Ottawa Now with Evan Solomon” on Wednesday that the proposal would include a cultural event centre featuring an indoor and outdoor space; a public square, and retails space including condos and hotels.
Sources had previously confirmed to CTV that libraries are part of the two remaining redevelopment proposals, and that both remaining bids plan to include an NHL calibre rink.
Rendez Vous LeBreton Group - a partner with the Ottawa Senators - and DCDLS Group, formerly Devcore group – are both vying for the redevelopment contract.
The request for proposals went out in February 2015 after the National Capital Commission announced it was looking to make LeBreton Flats a bold, new anchor institution for the City of Ottawa. Now, nearly one year later, only two proposals remain.
The public will be able to view and comment on those two remaining proposals on January 26th and 27, at the Canadian War Museum.
