Police are seeking to revoke diplomatic immunity to proceed with charges against a 30-year-old man following a June 2 vehicle chase that sent an officer to hospital.

Marwan Al Harbi is charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm, flight while pursued causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, and assault causing bodily harm.

The short chase occurred after officers were called about an erratic driver on Colonel By Drive.

The chase ended when the vehicle collided with a police car at the intersection of Bank Street and Heron Road. The officer was treated in hospital for minor injuries.

A 30-year-old suspect was taken into custody at the time. A diplomat from the Saudi Arabian embassy had been the man under investigation, sources told CTV Ottawa earlier this month.

Al Harbi will appear in court on Aug. 17. Ottawa police are now seeking a waiver of immunity from criminal prosecution from the Department of Foreign Affairs to proceed with the charges.
