CTV Ottawa has learned a diplomat from the Saudi embassy is being investigated after an early morning police chase ended with a police officer being sent to hospital.
Police say the short chase happened after officers got a call about an erratic driver on Colonel By Drive at about 12:45 a.m. Tuesday.
The chase ended when the vehicle collided with a police car at the intersection of Bank Street and Heron Road. The officer was treated in hospital for minor injuries.
The 30-year-old suspect was taken into custody and has since been released into the care of embassy officials. He was not injured in the crash.
Ottawa police say they will be working closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to pursue appropriate charges. Police would not confirm the embassy involved.
